Owner FAQ

Short answers, each backed by a full chapter.

Do you publish maintenance intervals?

No. Intervals depend on engine, model year and duty cycle, and makers revise them. Each maintenance page explains the job and points you to your owner's manual or Cummins guide.

Is this site part of Cummins or Ram?

No. It is an independent owner's handbook from the Dodge Off Road crew, and is not affiliated with Cummins Inc., Ram or any vehicle maker.

Does Dodge Off Road sell engine parts?

No. Dodge Off Road builds suspension and steering parts for Ram trucks, which is why store links appear mainly in the lift, steering and towing chapters.

Can I delete the DPF or EGR on my Cummins?

Not legally on a road vehicle. EPA treats removing or defeating emissions controls as tampering under the Clean Air Act.

Which Cummins is in my Ram?

12-valve 5.9 from 1989 into 1998, 24-valve 5.9 to 2002, 5.9 common rail 2003 to early 2007, and the 6.7 since. Confirm with the engine dataplate.

Is a 2003 Ram a 5.9 or 6.7?

The 2003 to early 2007 trucks have the 5.9 common rail. The 6.7 arrived partway through the 2007 model year, so check the engine dataplate.

What years did the Titan XD have the Cummins?

The 2016 through 2019 model years. Nissan dropped the diesel for 2020.

Which Cummins engines are in diesel pushers?

Commonly the ISB / B6.7 and the ISL / L9, depending on coach size and year. Cummins publishes motorhome guides for both.

Do air bags increase towing capacity?

No. Air Lift and NHTSA guidance both say suspension add-ons do not raise GVWR or the maker's ratings. They can level the truck and improve how it rides under load.

What is axle wrap?

Leaf springs twisting under torque so the axle rotates and hops. Traction bars resist it.

Do I need a track bar for a leveling kit?

Any lift on a link-front Ram shifts the axle sideways. Suspension makers recommend an adjustable track bar to re-center it; how much it matters grows with lift height.
