Start with the ratings
- GVWR: the most the truck may weigh, loaded. It is on the door-jamb label.
- GAWR: the most each axle may carry.
- GCWR: truck plus trailer, loaded.
- Hitch ratings: the hitch, ball and receiver each have their own limits. The lowest one wins.
NHTSA and Air Lift both make the same point: adding air bags, springs or other suspension parts does not raise the manufacturer's ratings. Everything you add to the truck also comes out of payload.

Questions
Do air bags increase towing capacity?
No. Air Lift and NHTSA guidance both say suspension add-ons do not raise GVWR or the maker's ratings. They can level the truck and improve how it rides under load.
