What Cummins says
- It is aimed at older light trucks and cars. Cummins says it is generally suitable for 1999 and earlier light trucks and 1993 and earlier cars, depending on local rules.
- It is not CARB approved, and Cummins says it does not sell it in certain states and provinces.
- The installer is responsible for legal compliance.
- It is not a bolt-in: the install guide covers mounts, cooling, fuel, wiring and controls.
- A repower does not raise the vehicle's towing rating.
For the classic used-engine route, see 4BT and 6BT swaps.
